WHAT IS IT

Introduction to E-Medical Visa

An Indian e-Visa is an electronic travel authorization that simplifies acquiring a visa to visit India. Travelers receive an electronic visa quickly after submitting an online form with their personal and passport information. Nationals of 169 countries are eligible under the e-Visa scheme.

The e-Medical Visa is a short-term visa granted specifically for medical treatment in India. It allows the holder up to three visits to India, and is issued to those seeking treatment in reputable, well-established or specialised hospitals.

The e-Medical Visa covers tourism, visiting friends and relatives, short-term medical treatment, and business visits under India's broader e-Visa authorization framework. Only family members of patients receiving treatment in India are eligible for the Medical Attendant Visa.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Can children be included in a parent's e-Medical Visa application? ⌄
No. Regardless of age, all applicants must have their own passports. Parents are not permitted to include their children in their online visa application. Each child must apply separately with their own passport.
Can the e-Medical Visa be extended once in India? ⌄
No — the e-Medical Visa cannot be extended and is only valid for up to 60 days. If a longer stay is required for your treatment, apply for a regular Medical Visa through the Indian embassy before travelling.
Does India Medi Trip provide the Hospital Invitation Letter? ⌄
Yes. While India Medi Trip does not issue visas directly, we assist patients in obtaining the official Visa Invitation Letter from the hospital — a mandatory requirement. We coordinate this on your behalf at no extra charge.
How many family members can accompany a patient? ⌄
A Medical Attendant Visa can be awarded to up to two family members travelling with an e-Medical Visa holder. Attendant visas are valid for the same duration as the patient's e-Medical Visa.
Are Diplomatic Passport holders eligible? ⌄
No. Applicants with International Travel Documents or Diplomatic Passports are not eligible for the e-Medical Visa. They must apply for a regular visa through the Indian Embassy in their country.
How early should I apply before travelling? ⌄
Applicants can apply online 4 to 7 days before their intended arrival in India. Although most applications are approved within 4 business days, we strongly recommend applying as early as possible to allow time for any complications.
